Explore the medium of oil using still life and photo reference to develop paintings from sketchbook studies. Learn how to enhance your compositions with an understanding of the principles of design and color. This course has the flexibility for both the beginner and more advanced oil painter. State Board Continuing Education Clock Hours available.

Oil Pastel Drawing from Life

Working from still life objects can be the best way to learn about color. Oil pastel is a versatile medium for drawing in color that can be learned easily. This workshop will discuss the methods and steps from basic to advanced levels of drawing. Use this workshop to develop your own skills or lesson plans for your classroom. State Board Continuing Education Clock Hours available.

Teaching Design in the High School Art Room

Learn new ways to teach design and design thinking in the high school art room. You will gain new concepts, drawing techniques, and support skills with lesson ideas that apply to all high school students. Also learn ways to integrate collaboration, critique, and cross-disciplinary study. State Board Continuing Education Clock Hours available.

WMU Program

New Online M.A. in Art Education from Western Michigan University

The Gwen Frostic School of Art at WMU is pleased to offer a new online master's degree in Art Education. The program provides new and established art educators with advanced professional preparation in curriculum development, pedagogy, action research, leadership, and advocacy in the visual arts. 100% online and designed to be completed in three years of sequential online coursework, the 30-hour program includes 18 credit hours of study in art education and 12 credit hours of electives chosen from a range of complementary disciplines.

This intense hands-on workshop taught by Lynne Chytilo, ceramics and sculpture professor at Albion College, is specifically designed to focus on the needs of art educators teaching grades 8-12.  Join us June 17-21, 2013 in the spacious and well-equipped ceramics studio on the Albion College campus to delve into the ceramic process. This course is suitable for teachers with limited clay experience who wish to learn more, or for those with a great deal of expertise needing to refresh their skills.
