MICHIGAN ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT ART EDUCATOR SCHOLARSHIP GRAND TRAVERSE RESORT - 0CT0BER 2012
The MAEA MEMORIAL ART EDUCATOR SCHOLARSHIP was established as a result of many memorial contributions to the MAEA for scholarships upon the death of ED JACOMO; outstanding Alma College art educator, recipient of the Governor's Arts Award for Education, a mentor to many and a 'true disciple' of art education. The scholarship fund was set up and people were made aware that memorial contributions were being accepted. Other early memorial honorees include: RUTH BEATTY; Ann Arbor Art Supervisor, MAEA President, first NAEA-RAEA Vice President, early leader in the NAEA State (Delegate) Assembly; JOHN NASH; Flint Art Supervisor, MAEA President, political activist; ELAINE KOLASA; Ann Arbor art educator, painter, MAEA unpaid staff office manager; DEANE PETERSON, MAEA Board member, conference chair. For several years there has been a check-off on the MAEA conference registration to donate to the fund. In addition, the MAEA-RAEA group(retired art educators) has sponsored the annual Garage Sale with proceeds going to the fund. The fund is invested and only the interest gained may be used for the scholarship award.
